Fjord, train and the Stegastein view

A minibus takes you from Bergen to Gudvangen, a boat takes you to Flåm, and a guide drives you up to the Stegastein platform above the Aurlandsfjord before you ride the Flåm Railway to Myrdal. Pick it for Stegastein and a slow afternoon in Flåm, and accept a late night: in summer you reach Bergen at 21:33.

Flåm Railway, Fjord Cruise & Stegastein View

About this experience

This is one of three Fjordrive Tours listings on this site, and the longest. A black Mercedes Sprinter leaves the Tourist Information at Strandkaien 1 at 08:00, stops at Dale for coffee and at Tvindefossen for photos, and reaches Gudvangen before noon. The 12:10 electric boat takes two hours through the Nærøyfjord to Flåm, where you get 45 minutes for lunch.

At 15:00 the guide drives you up the mountain road above Aurland to Stegastein, a platform that reaches 30 m out over the trees about 650 m above the fjord, designed by Todd Saunders and Tommie Wilhelmsen and finished in 2006 (National Tourist Routes). Back in Flåm by 16:30 you have about two hours free before the 18:25 Flåm Railway up to Myrdal and the 19:26 Bergen Line train, due in Bergen at 21:33. Those are the listing's summer times for May to September 2026.

The catch is in the includes list: the guide and minibus stay with you only until the Flåm Railway. You ride both trains home on your own, with instructions given on the day, and you arrive at Bergen station late in the evening. The listing also warns that weather, traffic or road closures can change timing or stops, with a partial or full refund depending on what is missed. No children under 4.

Tips before you book

  • Book a late table or pack food for the train: you reach Bergen at 21:33 in summer.
  • Spend part of the free time at the Flåm Railway Museum by the station. Entry is free.
  • Stegastein is high and exposed. Bring a warm layer even in July.
  • Views switch sides on the way up from Flåm. Most guides say sit on the right going up, and everyone gets out at Kjosfossen anyway.
  • Listen closely to the train instructions: you change at Myrdal on your own.
