Booking choice: The classic guided loop from Bergen. Check dates Tour details
For years the Flåm Railway had a simple printed price list with three seasons. For 2026 the operator has not published one. Vy, which runs the trains and sells tickets, shows a single "from" fare for an adult single instead.
Below is what that fare means, what the last official list said, who gets a discount, where to buy, and what you are paying for when you book a tour instead.
The quick answer
Vy sells adult singles on the Flåm Railway at a single "from" fare in 2026; children 6 to 17 pay half. No official 2026 price list is online, so the 2025 list is the best guide to the year: lowest fares November to March, mid fares in April and October, highest from May to September. Interrail and Eurail holders get 30% off singles, but only from a staffed station, Entur or Vy by phone. A day trip from Bergen costs far more than the train alone because it bundles four or five tickets, transport and a guide.
How much is a Flåm Railway ticket in 2026?
Vy shows a "from" fare for an adult single, with children 6 to 17 at half price. No full 2026 price list has been published, so check your date on vy.no.
The Vy route page lists an adult single with a "from" fare, a child single (6 to 17) at 50% of the adult fare, a separate bicycle fare and dogs free. The operator's fares page shows timetables but no prices, and the 2026 timetable PDF returns an error.
The last full list is the 2025 timetable and price list, valid until 31 March 2026. It had three seasons, with the cheapest fares from November to March. Use it as a guide to the shape of the year, not as 2026 prices.
| Season (2025 list) | Adult fare | Child 6-17 fare |
|---|---|---|
| May to September (high) | Highest | Half price |
| April and October (mid) | Mid | Half price |
| November to March (low) | Lowest | Half price |
| Children 0-5 | Free | Free |
Are Flåm Railway fares dynamic in 2026?
It looks like it. Vy's "from" fare is not on the 2025 list, and 2026 travellers report different prices for the same leg depending on date and seller.
Nobody official says "dynamic pricing". The evidence is indirect. Vy's "from" price sits between the old low and mid seasons. A Czech travel blog's 2026 do-it-yourself breakdown found a summer one-way fare on vy.no and a return from Norway's Best that were both above the old high-season fares. Cruise Critic quotes a different fare again at the Flåm booking office, undated. Those prices do not fit one fixed list.
Our reading: treat Vy's "from" fare as the floor, expect more for a summer departure, and compare vy.no with norwaysbest.com for the same train. The 2025 PDF also mentioned a return discount for adults who come back on the next departure the same day, so a quick turnaround can cost less than two singles.
Who gets a discount on the Flåm Railway?
Children 6 to 17 pay half, under-6s are free, and Interrail or Eurail holders get 30% off single tickets bought the right way.
The operator gives pass holders with an active travel day 30% off ordinary single tickets. The catch is where you buy: at a staffed station in Norway, through Entur, or by phone with Vy customer service (+47 61 05 19 10). These tickets are not sold on vy.no or visitflam.com. A pass is a discount here, not a free ride.
We found no senior or student fare on the 2025 list. Bikes need their own ticket and a space reserved when you buy, according to Vy. Dogs travel free.
| Traveller | What you pay | Where to buy |
|---|---|---|
| Adult | Full fare, check vy.no for your date | vy.no, norwaysbest.com, Entur |
| Child 6-17 | 50% of the adult fare | Same as adults |
| Child 0-5 | Free (2025 list) | No ticket needed |
| Interrail / Eurail | 30% off singles | Staffed station, Entur or Vy by phone |
| Bicycle | Own fare, space reserved | With your ticket |
Where is the best place to buy Flåm Railway tickets?
Vy for a journey that includes the Bergen Line, Norway's Best for a round trip from Flåm, Entur for Interrail discounts.
The operator sends combined Bergen Line and Flåm Railway journeys to vy.no and sells round trips from Flåm on norwaysbest.com. Everyrail adds three details that catch people out: tickets normally go on sale about 120 days ahead, each ticket is valid only on its own departure, and Myrdal has no ticket office or machine. A sold-out train has no waiting list, and the operator says customer service cannot add seats.
For summer departures, buy as soon as your dates are firm. Our ticket guide walks through each site step by step.

Why does a Flåm Railway day trip from Bergen cost so much more?
Because the train is one ticket out of four or five. A tour bundles the Bergen Line, the fjord boat, buses or a minibus, often a guide and an attraction.
GetYourGuide does not sell the Flåm Railway on its own. Every listing is a full day from Bergen built around it. The classic guided loop includes the coach to Voss, the Bergen Line to Myrdal, the Flåm Railway down to Flåm, a two-hour Nærøyfjord cruise, a guided Viking village visit and the coach back. Lunch is not included.
Building that day yourself is cheaper but not cheap. The same blog's 2026 breakdown, starting from Oslo, adds up the legs below to several times the price of the train ticket alone. Fjord Tours' own self-guided Norway in a Nutshell costs more again. On a tour you pay extra for the guide, a fixed plan and someone else's problem if a connection fails.
Note that the self-guided ticket package costs more than several guided days. If you want a guide, the Fjordrive minibus loop is the lowest price on this site.
| Leg of the classic loop | Do it yourself (one 2026 blog) | In the guided loop? |

Explore the classic guided loop from Bergen Tour detailsWhen is the cheapest time to ride the Flåm Railway?
November to March. On the 2025 list low-season fares were about 27% below summer, and the trains are emptier too.
On the 2025 list the low-season adult single was the cheapest of the year, well below the fare from May to September. Winter has fewer departures and short days, which our winter 2026-27 post covers. April and October sit in between on price, with longer days than winter and far smaller crowds than July.
On tour prices the season matters less. GetYourGuide from-prices move with demand, but the tours on this site start at broadly similar prices for a shared day in most months. Check the listing at checkout for your date.
