- Line: Myrdal (867 m, Bergen Line junction, no road access) to Flåm (2 m, head of the Aurlandsfjord), 20.2 km, about 1 hour each way.
- Maximum gradient 55 per mille; one of the steepest standard-gauge adhesion railways (Store norske leksikon: Europe's second steepest of that type). Not the steepest railway in the world.
- 20 tunnels, 18 dug by hand. First trains 1 August 1940, passengers from February 1941, electric from November 1944.
- Kjosfossen photo stop: about 5 minutes, all year; 93 m main fall. The Huldra performance runs in summer only.
- Nearly 960,000 passengers in 2024 (Store norske leksikon). Flåm had 293 residents in 2025.

- '80% of the line at 55 per mille': a garble. About 80% climbs at 28 per mille or more, peaking at 55; the average is about 42.
- 'Lonely Planet's best train journey': it ranked first in Lonely Planet Traveller magazine's world's most incredible train journeys of 2014.
- The Huldra dance at Kjosfossen is a staged summer performance, not a folk custom, and does not run in winter.
- Most GetYourGuide day trips ride the Flåm Railway uphill (Flåm to Myrdal); only some ride it downhill.
